What is PKT?

The PKT blockchain is the worlds first, layer one, bandwidth-hard proof of work blockchain. It is powered by a unique algorithm named PacketCrypt. This algorithm was created by Caleb James De Lisle. It was purpose built to be a bandwidth hard algorithm that can’t be easily ported over to something like ASIC miners and GPUs.

The project is fully decentralized, open source, and developed by the community at large. If you are an avid user of the internet, you more than likely appreciate the beauty of the internet and it’s openness to express oneself, the exchange of information and the ability to connect individuals across the world.

One of the main goals of this project is to use mesh networking technologies to create a decentralized internet. At the moment the only way to get internet at home is to purchase service from one of these large centralized internet providers.

With mesh networking technologies like cjdns (also developed by Caleb James De Lisle) you can effectively create a web of nodes. With enough participation and coverage it all of a sudden becomes entirely possible to get access to the internet from your neighbors for free. If you happen to be sharing your internet connection with others, you could also earn money from sharing your connection.

Companies like PKT Pal have release several variations of the PKT Cube that allows individuals to participate and be a part of the PKT network in a very simple way with very little technical knowledge. The PKT cube is a small device that allows you to mine PKT and also share WIFI all from a simple to use mobile application.

If you want to learn even more about the project and or get involved, you can visit https://pkt.net. There, you will also find the roadmap, which provides a quick overview of the different phases of the project. Each phase brings new utilities and features to the ecosystem as a whole. There you can also see what services and utilities have launched or might be close to launching.

The Network Steward

One very unique aspect of this blockchain is something called The Network Steward. This special fund is a unique resource that allows every single member of the community to help further the roadmap of the project and earn some money doing it.

The way it work is, every single block that is mined on this blockchain includes an automatic earnings contribution to a special fund that is meant to be used to provide funding for development of PKT related technologies. Additionally, in the past, the fund has provided funding to decentralized broadband technologies as well.

Currently the fund is managed by Caleb James De Lisle. Every week a automatic vote is initiated by the blockchain and community members can vote with their PKT for the candidate they think makes most sense. The candidate the gets the most votes wins the election and will be the network steward till the following election with is a week later. Then the process repeats.

You an find more details and stats about the last election here: https://packetscan.io/election Candidates usually provide a very detailed proposal in order to attract community members votes and ultimately receive funding.

Another function of the network steward is to help burn circulating supply of PKT coins to increase demand. All NS funds that are not used after 3 months are burned and can never be recovered by anyone.
